Duhgu-ba, 'The Gathering Place' (next to the Goodwill Bridge), Gardens Point

To celebrate Multicultural Queensland Month, QUT is delighted to host this international food festival at Gardens Point. We're working with our international and cultural student clubs to celebrate diversity, and it's your chance to purchase traditional foods from different cultures and enjoy free entertainment.

Come along to the newly opened Duhgu-ba, ‘The Gathering Place’ at Gardens Point campus on Thursday 10th of August from 4pm until 8pm to try mouthwatering dishes, listen to music and watch dance performances from across the globe as the sun sets over the river.

There are a wide range of international and cultural clubs you can join at QUT. It's a great way to celebrate different cultures, connect, and build your community.

The Australian Italian Festival is celebrated annually and is a fantastic event that promotes, showcases and celebrates the cultural attributes of Italian migrants and descendants in the Hinchinbrook Shire and Australia.

Over the weekend, the TYTO Parklands will be transformed into a full-scale piazza with nonstop, world-class entertainment and competitions. It celebrates all things Italian – Food, Wine, and Song with Market Stalls, a Historical display, Spaghetti and Pizza eating challenges, a Greasy Pole Challenge, Pizza Twirling, play a game of Bocce and much more.

The 2023 entertainment will feature Paul Tabone returning to Australia from his latest overseas performances. Also, dance away to the traditional Italian folk band, Zumpa, Cosima De Vito, Fortunato and his band, Attori and many more. Would you like to learn traditional Italian dance? We have Carina Dancers and Taranta Meanjin Brisbane, who will run traditional dancing displays and workshops. Or would you like to learn how to cook like an Italian? The cooking demonstrations return this year.

For the children, there are free amusement rides, a live puppet show, and a circus workshop; Prima Spada will be there with their fencing demonstration and other exciting events. On-site will be market stalls, homemade, mouth-watering Italian food from professional chefs and the best local Italian Nonnas on sale!

The Festival is run by volunteers and is a celebration of our cultural heritage.

Located at the award-winning TYTO Precinct, just 500 metres from Ingham's CBD. The precinct includes a library, gallery and visitors information centre along with pristine parklands and wetlands.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS Queensland Youth Folk Orchestra The Queensland Youth Folk Orchestra (QYFO) is a gathering of young folk musicians and singers (13-30yrs) from across Queensland meeting to learn, teach each other and perform traditional and contemporary folk songs and tunes from Australia and beyond. Through a tapestry of workshops, sessions and performances led by Emma Nixon, QFYO provides opportunities for young musicians to learn a variety of musical styles in a space dedicated to development, friendship, inspiration and sharing. In 1924, film director Angelo Drovetti embarked on epic 8,000 nautical mile voyage. The result is regarded as the most comprehensive film ever made of a migrant voyage.

Live the journey with live Italian folk music from Zumpa by the Brisbane River at the Queensland Maritime Museum as part of the 2022 Brisbane Anywhere Festival.

ABOUT THE NIGHT There will two performances with limited tickets on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 May 2022.

Doors open 7.30pm Music from 8pm Free Entry The Glasshouse Musos (Sunshine Coast) is happy to announce that they are ramping up their involvement with the Beewah Hotel. Recognising the lack of performing opportunity for musicians, the hotel has responded warmly to more shows in the local area. From June the Musos will coordinate three events a month for the hotel. The events will be on the second Tuesday, the third Saturday and the last Sunday of the month. The evening is hosted by amazing local performer Rob Longstaff. The 21 August evening will feature Zumpa, from Brisbane. She has been a vocalist and songwriter for a variety of bands and theatrical productions, and has performed at music festivals throughout Australia, including The Planting (Woodford 2018), Maleny Music Festival (2018), Fairbridge Festival (2019) Tablelands Folk Festival (2018) and Illawarra Folk Festival (2019, 2020). Zumpa takes you on a musical journey to forgotten Italian fishing villages, moonlit olive groves and a hard life under a hot sun where peasants play music to celebrate life with a fierce sense of humour. While still attending Brisbane State High, Ella Macrokanis has already won professional supporting screen acting roles, most recently in the SBS mini drama series, Safe Harbour, alongside Phoebe Tonkin and Ewen Leslie. For Ella, who was taught music by Lizzie as a twelve-year-old student at West End State Primary school, ‘Ms Flynn’ provided the inspiration and encouragement to take an artistic career seriously, so there is a truthful connection between the two in this production.

Live music returns to West End Markets! Free gig on the banks of the Brisbane River at the wonderful Davies Park Market, West End (Brisbane). Music starts at 9am and goes through to Midday. Gareth Mewes, Andre Bonetti, Reuben Johson 11.20am - Zumpa Lizzie Flynn writes songs that blend a little satirical storytelling with a lot of joyful emotion. She has been a vocalist and songwriter for a variety of bands and theatrical productions, and has performed at music festivals throughout Australia, including The Planting (Woodford 2018), Maleny Music Festival (2018), Fairbridge Festival (2019) Tablelands Folk Festival (2018) and Illawarra Folk Festival (2019, 2020). Zumpa takes you on a musical journey to forgotten Italian fishing villages, moonlit olive groves and a hard life under a hot sun where peasants play music to celebrate life with a fierce sense of humour. While still attending Brisbane State High, Ella Macrokanis has already won professional supporting screen acting roles, most recently in the SBS mini drama series, Safe Harbour, alongside Phoebe Tonkin and Ewen Leslie. For Ella, who was taught music by Lizzie as a twelve-year-old student at West End State Primary school, ‘Ms Flynn’ provided the inspiration and encouragement to take an artistic career seriously, so there is a truthful connection between the two in this production.
